SOME FACTS
By age 7 girls are already less active than boys and this disparity widens as they move from childhood into adolescence, yet dance is one of the top activities among girls with 22%taking part (Youth Sport Trust: Girls Active Survey)
63% of girls surveyed want to see a greater focus on building girls’ skills and confidence to be leaders (Girl Guides: Girls Attitudes Survey 2020)
An ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND study found that dance helps young people build confidence and discover what their bodies are capable of. (ACE 2018)
In 2017, Crystal Pite was the first woman to choreograph for Covent Garden's main stage in two decades.
Dance has been found to bring enhanced self-esteem and greater capacity to deal with everyday problems for girls (Duberg, 2013)
We endeavour to invest time into every single woman that enters the AWA DANCE network, equipping them with our leadership tools to prepare them to confront the 21st century challenges.
We are aware that to make a change on a global scale, one must first focus on the individual. By understanding their potential and abilities, our women and girls will lead others with confidence, making them a generous leader, whose influence will ripple into their family, workplace, community and larger society.
Every single woman and girl in the AWA DANCE network is important to us; all of them are an essential part of a colourful and bright tapestry in the pattern of a grand leadership design.
